Do I need a title for a single axle trailer?
My friend gave me his 6X10 single axle utility trailer for free.
There is no title or bill of sale since it was free. Do I need a title in order to use it in the state of Wisconsin?
It depends on the weight of the trailer, and, how you intend to use it.
If you plan on using the trailer at or less than 3,000 pounds gross weight (weight of the trailer + weight of the load), then title & registration in Wisconsin is optional.
Anything more than that weight, and you do need title & registration. Fees vary based on weight.
Even if registration is optional, if you think you might ever use the trailer out-of-state, registration is a good idea. Some other states do require registration of small trailers.
You also must register if you are going to rent it out to others for profit, or otherwise use it as part of a business.
What’s an easy way of installing a gate on a 4×6 utility trailer?
Just bought a 4×6 trailer. It’s open in the back.Want to install a gate on it.Suggestions on ease of doing so.
Do you want to do it the EASY way or the RIGHT way?
The easy way often implies fast, or cheap, or minimal efforts. In which case, you can get an old piece of plywood, cut it to the size you need, drill a couple of small holes, loop some old baling wire through the holes and tie it to the trailer. Or if you have an old tubular headboard, strap that on. When you are ready to unload, just untie it. Carry some extra wire in case the first piece breaks.
The right way requires planning and execution. Think about what you want, design it, and if you do not have the skill required, hire someone to complete the work. Do your homework, decide if you want a pair of gates, a drop-down ramp, or a removable fence. Decide how you want it applied. Do you want hinges, and should they be screwed on or welded.
Then do it the easy way or the right way.
