Ferry Rates Increase

NANAIMO – BC Ferries is raising rates and some people are going to be paying a lot more to travel between the Island and the Mainland. There’s a new rate structure for people who drive RVs, tow boats or fifth wheel trailers. Those towing small Utility Trailers are being hit especially hard.
BC Ferries has eliminated its overheight surcharge. Anyone with what would have previously been considered an overheight vehicle will be paying the same base rate as a normal vehicle. However, the additional rate for each foot of length beyond 20 feet is jumping up to $5.25 right across the board.
A truck towing a utility trailer now costs $2.25 for each additional foot, but that will increase by $3 April 1st to $5.25 meaning a vehicle and utility trailer combination thirty feet long will cost an extra $30 a trip.
