This is my 1981 John Deere 850 Small Utility Tractor.

It has a 26 horsepower Yanmar 78 CI diesel engine. It provides enough torque to start up in 5th gear with a 20 foot fishing boat on trailer.

It is naturally aspirated and governed, so it tops out at 15 miles per hour in 8th gear. However, for a tractor of this size and the duties it is given, that is a sufficient speed. It is a fuel sipper, and 5 gallons of fuel will last many, many hours.

I had the throttle up a little in this film, so it sounds like it idles rather quickly. I do a quick start up in 6th, shift to 7th, and then when I get going straight, I throw it in 8th and back off the throttle due to the bumpiness of the yard, which is very noticeable.
