Do I need a title for a single axle trailer?

My friend gave me his 6X10 single axle utility trailer for free.
There is no title or bill of sale since it was free. Do I need a title in order to use it in the state of Wisconsin?

It depends on the weight of the trailer, and, how you intend to use it.

If you plan on using the trailer at or less than 3,000 pounds gross weight (weight of the trailer + weight of the load), then title & registration in Wisconsin is optional.

Anything more than that weight, and you do need title & registration. Fees vary based on weight.

Even if registration is optional, if you think you might ever use the trailer out-of-state, registration is a good idea. Some other states do require registration of small trailers.

You also must register if you are going to rent it out to others for profit, or otherwise use it as part of a business.

How strong are these eye bolts for use as a tie down point on a trailer??Pic included.?

you do need a title, you should get a note from your friend saying he gave it to you. you could also check out a salvage title if you have to fix it up.
